Raleigh schedules Aug. 18 hearings on two annexation petitions

Raleigh City Council has scheduled public hearings for Aug. 18, 2026, on two petitions seeking annexation of properties at 4424 Mitchell Mill Road and 2900 Barrington Drive.

The hearings are set for 1 p.m. during a Raleigh City Council meeting in the Raleigh City Council Chamber, 222 W. Hargett St. The city’s stated purpose for the hearings is to solicit public comments on the petitions.

Two proposed annexations

Petition AX-06-26 concerns 4424 Mitchell Mill Road, which the city identifies as being in District B. Petition AX-07-26 concerns 2900 Barrington Drive, identified in District C.

The matters remain proposed annexations. The published hearing notice schedules the public-comment step, but it does not report that either property has been annexed or that Council has approved either petition.

Raleigh’s published City Council meeting schedule also lists an Aug. 18, 2026, Council meeting and public-comment schedule. The hearing date is therefore the next identified formal step for both petitions.

What the hearing will address

At the Aug. 18 session, Council is scheduled to receive public comments on AX-06-26 and AX-07-26. The hearing is part of the city’s review of whether the two properties should enter Raleigh’s jurisdiction and municipal-service framework.

The available city notice does not state the acreage of either property, identify the owners, or describe proposed zoning or service-extension terms. It also does not establish whether Council will take final action on either petition during the Aug. 18 meeting.

Those omissions mean the published notice does not provide a basis to determine the terms of a potential annexation, if one is ultimately approved. It also does not indicate that approval is likely.

No final vote located

As of Aug. 3, 2026, the city’s search had not located a final Council vote on either petition. No vote total, approval date or final disposition is included in the available materials.

The outcome of the two cases will depend on the Aug. 18 hearing and subsequent Council action. Until then, AX-06-26 and AX-07-26 remain petitions scheduled for public hearing rather than completed annexations.

The two cases concern separate properties in different Council districts, but both are listed for the same 1 p.m. hearing during the Aug. 18 Council meeting. The City Council Chamber at 222 W. Hargett St. is the location identified in Raleigh’s public-hearing notice.
