Casper’s Tate Geological Museum schedules free Cave Crawl for Aug. 8
The Tate Geological Museum at Casper College will host its free 2026 Cave Crawl on Saturday, Aug. 8, bringing simulated caving, climbing and science activities to the museum from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The museum describes the program as a free CaveSim event. It will take place at the Tate Geological Museum on the Casper College campus in Casper.
The Cave Crawl is part of the museum’s public educational programming, combining hands-on activities with subjects connected to caves and their environments. The event’s five listed components include simulated cave tunnels, climbing activities, cave-rescue practice, bat-biology games and a vertical caving tower.
Five activities planned
The simulated cave tunnels are intended to place visitors in a cave-themed setting, while the vertical caving tower and climbing activities add physical components to the day’s schedule.
Cave-rescue practice is also listed among the activities, alongside bat-biology games. Together, those offerings bring exploration, rescue-related practice and biology into a program centered on caves.
The Tate Geological Museum’s Cave Crawl differs from a collection-viewing visit by organizing its public program around participation. Visitors will be able to move through the activity areas and engage with the event’s cave and science themes through the listed experiences.
Public education at the museum
The program is being presented through the Tate Geological Museum, an institution on the Casper College campus with geological and paleontological collections. The Cave Crawl uses those subject areas as the basis for an activity-focused community event.
For families and young learners, the program provides a free opportunity to encounter geology, paleontology, biology and cave exploration through hands-on activities. The museum has identified the event as part of its public educational programming, rather than a ticketed attraction or a college-only activity.
The event also falls within the kinds of cultural and educational offerings highlighted in Casper’s arts-and-culture landscape. Visit Casper identifies museums and educational programming, along with public art, live music and theater, among the city’s cultural offerings.
That context matters because the Cave Crawl places science learning in a community setting at the college museum. Its format links the museum’s educational role with activities that involve movement, simulated exploration and games, while retaining a focus on cave-related subjects.
