Augusta completes shift to four-day City Hall schedule
Augusta completed its transition to a four-day operating schedule for City Hall offices on Monday, July 13, moving the remaining departments to hours that run Monday through Thursday from 7:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
City Hall offices are closed on Fridays under the schedule. The change includes Development Services and Assessing, bringing those offices into the same arrangement already used by the City Clerk’s Office and General Assistance.
Hours change after pilot in selected offices
The city announced the wider City Hall transition on June 18, 2026. At that time, it said all remaining City Hall offices would move to the four-day schedule effective July 13.
The City Clerk’s Office and General Assistance had been using the schedule as a pilot since March 2026. Augusta said residents and business owners adapted well to that pilot.
The July 13 change expanded the schedule beyond those pilot offices to the remaining City Hall departments. It was not described as a new pilot for Development Services, Assessing or the other offices included in the transition.
What residents and businesses should know
The new schedule changes the days and times when people can visit City Hall for municipal services. Residents, business owners and property owners who use City Hall offices will now need to plan in-person visits within the Monday-through-Thursday schedule, rather than on Fridays.
Development Services and Assessing are specifically included in the expanded schedule. The city said the longer daily office hours are intended to provide access before and after traditional business hours.
For the public, the central dates are June 18, when the city announced the transition, and July 13, when the remaining City Hall offices began operating under the new hours. The posted office schedule is 7:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with Friday closures.
Scope of the announcement
The announcement applies to City Hall offices. It does not establish that every city operation, facility or emergency service follows the same Friday closure schedule.
The city’s notice also did not provide projected staffing savings, a productivity estimate or a formal evaluation of service-level effects. Augusta presented the change as an expansion of the schedule tested in the City Clerk’s Office and General Assistance, with the stated goal of offering longer daily access.
No additional implementation date or further step was identified in the announcement. The July 13 transition is the effective date for the remaining City Hall offices.
