$102.4 million Warwick Corridor project enters another phase of lane shifts and sidewalk work

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation has outlined temporary weekday traffic changes on Main Avenue and northbound Post Road as work continues on the Warwick Corridor Project, a transportation project with a projected cost of $102.4 million.

In its July 24 update, RIDOT said crews would continue replacing curbs, sidewalks and driveways on the two corridors. The construction schedule for the broader project runs from 2024 through 2027, though the agency did not provide final completion dates for individual road segments.

Main Avenue lane shifts and paving

On Main Avenue, RIDOT said curb, sidewalk and driveway replacement would require temporary lane shifts on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. The notice did not describe a full closure of Main Avenue.

The agency also listed driveway-apron paving for July 25. That work is part of the continuing Main Avenue construction activity identified in the July 24 update.

RIDOT’s notice identifies the work as temporary and cautions that lane-closure conditions may change after the update. The agency did not give a separate end date for the Main Avenue work.

Northbound Post Road right lane affected

On northbound Post Road, RIDOT said the right lane would be closed on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. while crews continue curb and sidewalk replacement between Main Avenue and the Airport Connector.

The advisory specifies a right-lane closure rather than a closure of all northbound Post Road. No individual completion date for that Post Road segment was included in the update.

Project reaches several Warwick corridors

The Warwick Corridor Project covers multiple road segments in the city, including portions of Route 113 and Route 117. Its listed Warwick corridors also include Main Avenue, East Avenue, West Shore Road and Post Road.

The multiyear project affects traffic, pedestrian access and businesses along several of Warwick’s principal commercial corridors. RIDOT lists the project’s cost as a projection, not a final cost, and its 2024-to-2027 schedule does not establish whether individual segments are ahead of, behind or on that schedule.

The next specifically identified activity in the July 24 notice was the July 25 driveway-apron paving, along with continuing weekday work and associated traffic changes on Main Avenue and Post Road. RIDOT may revise lane-closure conditions as work proceeds.
