Fort Wayne posts responses to more than 500 comments on proposed downtown homeless resource center
The City of Fort Wayne has published staff responses to more than 500 public entries submitted about its proposed Anchor Resource Center, a planned 24/7 hub for families and individuals facing homelessness.
The city said the next step is to provide Fort Wayne City Council members with draft operating and security plans approved by the Anchor Resource Center board, as well as a list of properties considered for the center’s location.
The proposal remains under review. The city’s July 14 announcement did not establish a final site, construction schedule, operating budget, council vote or a date for council action.
Public engagement period has closed
The city launched its online engagement page for the proposal on June 24, 2026. It accepted comments until 9 a.m. July 9, 2026, and reported receiving more than 500 entries during that period.
With staff responses now posted, the public-engagement phase described in the announcement has ended. The number of entries shows the volume of participation, but the city’s announcement does not characterize the comments as supportive of or opposed to the proposal.
The published responses are part of the city’s process for addressing questions and comments about the proposed center before the identified council review of operational, security and site-selection materials.
What the proposed center would provide
As described by the city, the Anchor Resource Center would operate around the clock and serve families and individuals experiencing homelessness. The center is proposed to connect people with housing, job training and employment, and mental and physical health care.
Those services have been described as planned elements of the proposal, not as a currently operating program. The announcement does not say which property, if any, will be selected for the center.
Council materials are the next identified step
City staff said council members would receive the board-approved draft operations and security plans for review. They also would receive the list of properties that had been considered for the location.
Those documents are the next known step after the close of online public engagement. The city did not specify a deadline for delivering the materials or identify when the City Council would consider them.
