Fairbanks-area candidates face Aug. 5 withdrawal deadline after municipal filings close
Candidate filing has closed for Fairbanks-area municipal elections, and candidates now have until 5 p.m. Aug. 5 to withdraw before the ballot is finalized for an election currently scheduled for Oct. 6, 2026.
The City of Fairbanks lists July 29 at 5 p.m. as the close of its candidate-filing period. The Fairbanks North Star Borough also identifies Aug. 5 at 5 p.m. as the withdrawal deadline.
The deadline is the next stated procedural step in the local election cycle. Candidate names and the final list of contests were not available in the approved material, so the post-withdrawal ballot will provide the confirmed field of candidates.
Offices on the borough election schedule
The Fairbanks North Star Borough Clerk administers elections for borough mayor, Assembly, School Board and Interior Alaska Natural Gas Utility offices, according to the borough’s election information page.
