SDDOT schedules Aug. 4 Rapid City meeting on Highway 16/Catron Boulevard interchange project
The South Dakota Department of Transportation will hold a public construction-information meeting Tuesday, Aug. 4, on the Highway 16/16B/Catron Boulevard interchange project in the Rapid City area and work involving part of Promise Road.
The meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. in the event room at Black Hills Energy, 7001 Mount Rushmore Road in Rapid City. SDDOT announced the meeting July 15.
Project information planned for the meeting
The project area identified by SDDOT includes the Highway 16/16B and Catron Boulevard interchange, along with a portion of Promise Road.
A prerecorded presentation will run throughout the evening. Project staff will also be available to answer questions about construction timelines and impacts on commuters and adjacent businesses, according to the department.
The meeting is intended to provide information about the project for people who travel through the area, live nearby or operate businesses next to the project area. It gives residents, commuters and adjacent businesses an opportunity to review project phases, timelines and potential impacts with staff.
What the announcement does and does not establish
SDDOT describes the Aug. 4 gathering as a public information meeting. The announcement provides the meeting date, time, location and the areas included in the project, but it does not provide a total project cost.
The notice also does not set out a final construction schedule or an expected completion date. While staff are expected to discuss construction timelines, the department’s announcement does not specify those timelines in advance.
In addition, the release does not say whether formal public comments will be accepted or whether the session will be limited to informational questions. It does not identify a further public deadline or another project milestone after the Aug. 4 meeting.
Next known step
The Aug. 4 meeting is the public event detailed in SDDOT’s announcement. People seeking information about project phases, construction timing or possible effects on travel and nearby businesses can attend the session and speak with available project staff.
The notice does not characterize the meeting as a project approval or final decision, and it does not establish that construction has begun.
