Pierre Regional Airport reports 40% passenger growth through June 2026

Pierre Regional Airport recorded 8,601 passenger enplanements through June 2026, a 40% increase from 6,149 during the same six-month period in 2025, according to a City of Pierre update published July 8.

The year-to-date total represents 2,452 more enplanements than the airport reported through June a year earlier. The figures are a measure of passengers boarding flights at the airport.

June traffic also rose

In June alone, the airport recorded 1,576 enplanements, compared with 1,165 in June 2025. That is an increase of 411 passengers, or 35.3% year over year.

The June increase was slightly below the 40% gain reported for the full January-through-June period, but both figures show higher boarding totals than the comparable 2025 periods.

What the city update does and does not say

The City of Pierre’s notice reports passenger totals only. It does not identify an airline or cite route-level changes, fare conditions or a specific reason for the increase.

The notice also does not announce a new route, a service expansion, an airport construction project or a facility expansion. No project cost, funding source, construction timetable, bidding schedule, closure or operational disruption was included in the update.

As a transportation facility, the airport’s reported passenger activity can be relevant to future service planning, carrier demand and decisions about facilities or routes. But the city’s July notice does not identify any resulting decision, planned action or next deadline.

What the figures measure

The city described the counts as enplanements, meaning passenger boardings. The reported 8,601 total is therefore the airport’s count through June rather than a projection for the rest of 2026.

Likewise, the 40% figure is a year-over-year comparison with the first half of 2025, while the 35.3% figure compares June 2026 with June 2025. The city reported both increases alongside the underlying passenger totals: 8,601 versus 6,149 through June, and 1,576 versus 1,165 for June.

The City of Pierre is the source of the figures. The update provides a current benchmark for passenger use at Pierre Regional Airport, while leaving the causes of the increase and whether it will continue unaddressed.
