Overnight I-84 ramp closures scheduled at Meridian’s Eagle Road interchange

Drivers using the westbound Interstate 84 off-ramp at Eagle Road in Meridian should plan for overnight closures scheduled Aug. 3-5 as the Idaho Transportation Department repaves ramps at the interchange.

The closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. at the Interstate 84 and Eagle Road Interchange, Exit 46. During the closures, westbound I-84 traffic that would normally exit at Eagle Road will be detoured to the Meridian Road Interchange.

Overnight work at Exit 46

The Eagle Road work is part of an ITD ramp-repaving project at the interchange. ITD says the work is intended to extend the service life of the ramps.

The westbound off-ramp schedule includes Aug. 1 and Aug. 3-5. The remaining scheduled work dates, Aug. 3 through Aug. 5, are overnight dates, rather than daytime closures.

ITD says only one ramp will be closed at a time. The agency’s notice does not describe a full closure of I-84.

What drivers should do

Motorists traveling through the interchange during the 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. work window should use the Meridian Road Interchange when the westbound Eagle Road off-ramp is closed. The detour applies to the ramp closure, not to all I-84 traffic.

The work affects overnight travelers approaching Eagle Road on westbound I-84, including drivers whose route normally uses Exit 46. ITD has not provided an estimated delay time or a total project cost in its notice.

The transportation department says the schedule is subject to change. Drivers can check 511 Idaho for current road and traffic information and sign up for the 84CORRIDOR text-update service for project updates before traveling.

The dates and hours listed by ITD are a schedule, not a guarantee that work will proceed exactly as planned. Travelers heading through Meridian overnight Aug. 3-5 should verify current conditions before leaving and follow posted detour directions if the westbound off-ramp closure is active.

ITD identified the project location as the Interstate 84 and Eagle Road Interchange in Meridian, Exit 46. The agency’s plan is to keep ramp impacts limited by closing one ramp at a time while repaving work is underway.
