Juneau activates flood hotline as Suicide Basin threat builds
The City and Borough of Juneau has opened a weekday hotline for non-emergency questions and concerns about the potential 2026 glacial lake outburst flood associated with Suicide Basin and Mendenhall Glacier.
The hotline, 907-500-0890, operates Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. City officials said it is part of continuing preparations for the seasonal flood threat in the Mendenhall Valley.
Flood threat tied to Suicide Basin
Juneau’s city newsroom said the threat is connected to Suicide Basin filling and the potential release of floodwater near Mendenhall Glacier. The city has not provided a confirmed flood-crest date or water level in the information reviewed for this report.
