Lansing School District keeps 2026-27 school-choice applications open through Aug. 28

Lansing School District is accepting cross-district Schools of Choice applications for the 2026-27 school year through Aug. 28, 2026, giving families seeking enrollment outside their resident district a remaining application window before the school year.

The deadline applies to Schools of Choice applications under Michigan Sections 105 and 105c. Lansing’s district materials say applicants who miss the Aug. 28 deadline must obtain a state-aid release from their resident district before they can enroll.

Separate deadline for students entering Grade 9

The district listed a different deadline for students entering Grade 9: transfer requests were due Aug. 1 at 11:59 p.m. That deadline is separate from the Aug. 28 cross-district Schools of Choice application deadline.

Families should not treat the later deadline as a guarantee of a seat. The district’s enrollment and magnet-school pages do not state how many seats remain at individual schools or how many applications have been received, and they do not guarantee placement for every eligible applicant.
