Delaware State Police investigate fatal single-vehicle crash in Dover
A 27-year-old Dover man died July 26 after the Lexus GX he was driving struck a center-median Jersey barrier and rolled over on Bay Road, according to Delaware State Police.
The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit. Police are seeking witnesses as investigators continue working to determine the circumstances of the fatal single-vehicle collision.
What police said happened
The crash occurred at approximately 3:10 p.m. on July 26, 2026, police said. The Lexus entered the right merge lane of northbound Bay Road from Exit 93 in Dover.
In the preliminary account released by state police, the vehicle appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed and changing lanes recklessly before it hit the center-median Jersey barrier and overturned.
That description is part of the police department’s initial account, not a final finding on the cause of the crash. State police had not announced a final cause, citations or charges at the time of the release.
The driver was not restrained and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Authorities described him as a 27-year-old Dover man. His name was being withheld in the initial release pending notification of family members.
Bay Road closure
Bay Road was closed for approximately four hours while troopers investigated the crash scene. The closure followed the collision in the northbound area near Exit 93.
The case is a fatal-crash investigation involving a Dover roadway. The death, the roadway closure and the continuing reconstruction inquiry are the confirmed public-safety developments identified by police.
