  • Missouri emergency order for severe storms and flash flooding is set to remain in force through Aug. 10

Missouri’s emergency order for severe storms, flooding and flash flooding is scheduled to remain in effect through Aug. 10, unless it is extended.

Executive Order 26-16, issued by Gov. Mike Kehoe on July 10, declares a state emergency and activates the Missouri State Emergency Operations Plan. The order authorizes state agencies to assist affected jurisdictions.

    Response authorized under the order

The order says severe storms, flooding and flash flooding began July 9. It also says interruptions to public services were occurring or were anticipated.

The governor’s office identified central, south-central and southeastern Missouri as affected regions. It reported impacts to homes, roads and campgrounds, as well as multiple swift-water rescues.

Some areas received 6 to 12 inches of rain, according to the governor’s office. Missouri Task Force 1 deployed 50 members along with equipment and rescue boats, the office said.

    What remains unknown

The available sources do not provide a complete current list of affected counties, a count of damaged homes or the amount of aid delivered.

The order’s scheduled Aug. 10 termination does not establish that it will continue beyond that date; an extension would be required.

  • St. Louis seeks resident input on waste and recycling services

The City of St. Louis is seeking residents’ opinions on residential waste and recycling services through a survey scheduled to remain open until Aug. 31, 2026.

The city announced the survey on its official News and Media page. It is directed at St. Louis residents and concerns the services provided to residential households.

    Deadline is Aug. 31

Residents have until Aug. 31, 2026, to submit their views, according to the city’s announcement. The survey is a public-input process focused on residential waste and recycling services.

The announcement was published July 24, 2026, on the city’s website. It identifies the closing date but does not report survey responses or describe resident sentiment while the survey remains open.

    No collection change announced

The city’s notice asks for opinions; it does not announce that a change to trash or recycling collection has been approved.

Waste and recycling service is a core municipal function for city households, making the survey a direct opportunity for residents to weigh in on those services. The city says the survey will remain available through the stated Aug. 31 deadline.

Whether the feedback will lead to future operational or policy changes has not been determined in the announcement. Any decision affecting residential trash or recycling service would require separate confirmation from the city.

  • MoDOT schedules mid-Missouri roadwork and flood-damage bridge repairs

The Missouri Department of Transportation has published its planned roadwork schedule for July 27 through Aug. 2 and says a repair plan has been finalized for the flood-damaged Route 49 bridge over Dry Creek in Crawford County.

MoDOT’s Central District released the information in an announcement dated July 24 from its Jefferson City office. The roadwork schedule and bridge-repair update are separate parts of the agency’s notice.

    Planned roadwork schedule

MoDOT listed planned roadwork across its Central District for the week of July 27 through Aug. 2. The schedule is a plan for that period, rather than a report that work has been completed.

The agency’s announcement was issued through its Central District, which is headquartered in Jefferson City.

Route 49 bridge repair planning finalized

MoDOT said the Route 49 bridge over Dry Creek closed July 10 because of flood damage. The bridge is in Crawford County, not Jefferson City.

The department reported that it had finalized a repair plan for the bridge. Finalizing the plan does not mean repairs have been completed. The supplied MoDOT materials do not provide a reopening date.

The announcements connect Jefferson City to the Central District’s transportation planning and communications, while the reported bridge closure and proposed repair work concern Crawford County.
