The Capital Region Airport Authority has announced a five-phase reconstruction project for airport-owned roads serving Capital Region International Airport, with construction planned through August 2027.
The project covers 2.3 miles of Port Lansing Road and 0.4 miles of Capital City Boulevard. The first phase is scheduled to run from July 13 through Sept. 6, 2026.
Later phase dates remain unsettled
The authority said the work is planned in five phases, but dates for later phases remain to be determined. Traffic effects may also change as construction proceeds.
The project concerns roads serving the Lansing airport, and the authority’s announcement identifies the Port Lansing Road and Capital City Boulevard corridors as part of the work.
Listed funding sources
The announcement lists $9.4 million in congressionally directed spending, $1,664,739.60 in Michigan Department of Transportation funding and a $1,450,986 airport share. Together, those listed amounts exceed $12 million.
The authority described the project as roadway infrastructure reconstruction. The announcement does not establish that the project is fully funded beyond the specific contributions it lists, and it does not say the airport will close or that all roads will be fully closed during construction.
