Lewiston opens nomination papers for 2026 mayoral, council and school committee races
Lewiston’s City Clerk’s Department has opened the nomination-paper process for the city’s 2026 municipal election, making papers available for the mayor’s office, three City Council seats and four School Committee seats.
The city announced Monday, June 22, that prospective candidates could obtain papers for the offices. The election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, according to Lewiston’s elections page.
Offices on the ballot
The ballot will include one mayoral seat. It will also include City Council seats in Wards 2, 4 and 6.
School Committee seats in Wards 1, 3, 5 and 7 are also included in the nomination-paper announcement.
In total, the opening of the process covers seven municipal offices: the mayor, three council wards and four School Committee wards.
Election cycle formally underway
Availability of nomination papers is the opening procedural step identified by the city for people seeking municipal office in the 2026 election cycle. The Nov. 3 election will determine who holds the mayor’s office and represents the listed council and School Committee wards. The City Council positions are ward-specific seats in Wards 2, 4 and 6, while the School Committee positions are ward-specific seats in Wards 1, 3, 5 and 7.
