Vaqueros de Bayamón advance to second straight BSN Conference A final
The Vaqueros de Bayamón defeated the Gigantes de Carolina-Canóvanas 90-81 in the deciding fifth game of their Baloncesto Superior Nacional Conference A semifinal series, eliminating the Gigantes and advancing to a second consecutive conference final.
El Nuevo Día reported that the Game 5 victory came on July 17 at Coliseo Rubén Rodríguez in Bayamón. The result sent the Vaqueros, Bayamón’s professional BSN club, through to the next stage of the postseason.
Semifinal series ends in Bayamón
The 90-81 result settled the Conference A semifinal in Bayamón’s favor. Carolina-Canóvanas was eliminated, while the Vaqueros secured a place in the Conference A final for the second year in a row.
The matchup also marked the second consecutive semifinal in which Bayamón eliminated Carolina-Canóvanas, according to El Nuevo Día. That repeat postseason outcome provides the immediate context for the Vaqueros’ return to the conference-final round.
Bayamón entered the postseason as the defending BSN champion. The semifinal victory keeps the club in contention for another league title, but it does not make the Vaqueros the 2026 BSN champions: the Conference A final and a league final remained to be played after the series win.
McCullough joined during the matchup
Chris McCullough joined Bayamón during the semifinal series after replacing Jae Crowder. In his debut with the Vaqueros, McCullough recorded 21 points and 10 rebounds.
McCullough averaged 11 points per game during the semifinal series, El Nuevo Día reported. The reported average pertains to the series in which he joined Bayamón, rather than to the club’s full postseason run or regular season.
His arrival was a roster change made while the series was underway, and the Vaqueros ultimately completed the semifinal win with the 90-81 Game 5 result. The available reporting does not establish additional individual Game 5 statistics, so the decisive score and series outcome remain the confirmed measures of Bayamón’s advancement.
What comes next
Bayamón’s next confirmed playoff stage is the BSN Conference A final. As of Aug. 3, the reviewed sources did not establish the Vaqueros’ opponent or a complete schedule for that round.
The immediate significance is therefore a conference-semifinal series victory, not a final league result. The Vaqueros have moved beyond Carolina-Canóvanas and remain alive in the BSN postseason as they seek to defend their championship.
