Hartford property-tax installment payment deadline is Aug. 3

Hartford’s first semiannual tax installment based on the city’s Oct. 1, 2025 grand list must be paid on or before Aug. 3, 2026, according to the City of Hartford Tax Collector.

The installment became due July 1. The city’s notice identifies Aug. 3 as the deadline for payment, making it the immediate date for property owners with taxes in this installment cycle.

Tax Collector notice sets the payment date

The Tax Collector’s office issued the information on July 1, 2026. It describes the bill as the first semiannual installment of taxes on the Oct. 1, 2025 grand list.

The notice is a tax-collection deadline, not an announcement of a new tax rate or a change to the underlying grand list. The city’s published tax information says Hartford sets mill rates annually in May or June through its municipal budget process.

That timing distinguishes the annual budget-related rate-setting process from the current collection stage. The Aug. 3 date concerns payment of the first semiannual installment; the available city materials do not describe a pending vote, proposed ordinance, court proceeding or new rate action connected to this deadline.

What the deadline covers

The city ties this installment to the Oct. 1, 2025 grand list. The grand-list date is the assessment reference identified in the Tax Collector’s notice, while July 1, 2026 is the date the installment became due and Aug. 3, 2026 is the stated payment deadline.

For affected Hartford taxpayers, those are separate dates with separate functions: the grand-list date identifies the list on which the installment is based; July 1 marks when the installment was due and payable; and Aug. 3 is the city’s stated final date for payment.

The official notice does not state the total amount billed citywide, the number of taxpayers covered, a delinquency rate, or the amount of any charge that may apply after the deadline. It also does not say whether the deadline has been extended. The city’s posted information therefore supports reporting the payment date, but not a specific consequence for a missed payment.

Municipal budget context

Hartford’s tax information says mill rates are set annually in May or June as part of the municipal budget process. That published schedule provides the city-government context for the taxes now in collection, but it does not establish the rate applicable to any individual bill or the amount owed by a particular property owner.

The Tax Collector’s office is the city office issuing the deadline information. Taxpayers seeking information about the first semiannual installment should rely on the city’s Tax Collector materials, which state that payment must be made on or before Aug. 3, 2026.
