Early voting opens in Anchorage for Alaska’s August 18 primary
Early and absentee in-person voting began Monday, Aug. 3, for Alaska’s 2026 primary election, giving Anchorage voters access to two listed early-vote locations before Election Day on Aug. 18.
The Alaska Division of Elections lists Midtown Mall and Anchorage City Hall as the city’s early-vote sites. The early-voting period is scheduled to run through Aug. 17.
Anchorage locations and hours
One listed location is Midtown Mall at 600 E. Northern Lights Blvd. The other is Anchorage City Hall, 632 W. 6th Ave., Room 105.
Both locations are scheduled to operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Aug. 3 and Aug. 17, according to the Division of Elections.
The state also lists weekend hours at both sites from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, and Saturday, Aug. 15. Sunday hours are listed from noon to 4 p.m. on Aug. 9 and Aug. 16.
The locations are part of the state’s primary-election voting schedule. The Division of Elections separately lists Election Day hours for Aug. 18.
Key dates before the primary
Aug. 18 is the date of Alaska’s primary election. The state election calendar identifies Aug. 3 as the start not only of absentee in-person and early voting, but also electronic-transmission and special-needs voting.
Voters seeking an absentee ballot by mail face an earlier deadline: Aug. 8 is the deadline listed on the state election calendar for absentee-by-mail applications.
The opening of early voting establishes a roughly two-week period before the primary in which the two Anchorage sites are scheduled to be available on weekdays, plus the two listed weekend periods. The state’s location page says its voting information is subject to change.
What voters should know
The Division of Elections’ listing identifies these as Anchorage early-vote locations for the statewide primary. It does not provide opening-day turnout figures, and it does not identify which races or ballot measures may generate the greatest local interest.
For now, the next calendar deadline is Aug. 8 for absentee-by-mail applications. Early voting at the listed Anchorage sites is scheduled to continue through Aug. 17, followed by the Aug. 18 primary election.
