Sioux Falls municipal candidates face Aug. 5 campaign-finance filing deadline
Sioux Falls municipal candidates must file campaign-finance disclosure reports by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, under the city’s 2026 election handbook.
The deadline is the next scheduled public disclosure point for financial activity in the city’s 2026 municipal contests. The reports are to cover activity from May 30, 2026, or from the date a campaign last submitted a report, through Aug. 1, 2026.
What the deadline covers
The City of Sioux Falls handbook identifies campaign-finance disclosure reports as part of the city’s municipal election filing process and identifies the city election office, overseen through the Sioux Falls City Clerk’s operations, in its election procedures.
For campaigns that have not submitted an earlier report, the stated reporting window begins May 30. For a campaign with a prior filing, the report instead begins on the date of its last submitted report. In both cases, the reporting period ends Aug. 1.
The Aug. 5 deadline is a filing deadline, not a finding about any candidate or campaign. The available source material does not provide individual campaign fundraising totals, spending totals or liabilities, and it does not establish that any campaign has filed late or violated a campaign-finance requirement.
Records expected after filing
Once the reports are available, they are expected to provide public records on fundraising, spending and campaign liabilities during the stated reporting period. The filings can also be reviewed for major donors, changes in spending, financial activity by mayoral and council campaigns, and whether reports were submitted by the deadline.
Those details are not yet available in the material reviewed for the election handbook. The existence of the deadline alone does not show the financial position or electoral strength of any campaign.
Part of the 2026 municipal election process
The filing requirement applies to Sioux Falls municipal election activity. In a separate June 5 city announcement, Sioux Falls said a city runoff election was scheduled for June 23 and identified mayoral and council contests as part of the 2026 municipal election administration.
The city’s handbook sets the Aug. 5, 2026, 5 p.m. deadline as the immediate next campaign-finance reporting step identified in the approved materials. The next known step for public review is to examine the submitted disclosures after the deadline for the financial information they contain.
