Wyoming’s Aug. 18 primary nears as absentee voting and filing deadlines approach
Wyoming’s 2026 primary election is scheduled for Aug. 18, putting nominations for governor, other top statewide offices, Wyoming’s U.S. House seat and legislative seats before voters.
The election is the next statewide voting date on the Wyoming Secretary of State’s published 2026 calendar. The general election is scheduled for Nov. 3.
Regular absentee voting for the primary is listed from July 21 through Aug. 17. That final day of the absentee period also is the filing deadline for minor-party candidates, making it an important date for both voters using absentee ballots and candidates seeking access to the ballot outside the major-party primary process.
What is on the primary ballot
The ballot includes the governor and other top statewide offices, as well as Wyoming’s single U.S. House seat. The primary also covers contests for the Wyoming Legislature.
All Wyoming House districts are part of the 2026 election cycle. Legislative contests also include the odd-numbered Wyoming Senate districts and Senate District 6.
WyoFile has identified 62 House seats and 16 Senate seats as part of the cycle. That count is a description of the seats identified for the election, rather than a result of the Aug. 18 vote.
The primary will determine nominees headed into the Nov. 3 general election. The published calendar separates that election from later filing dates for candidates who are not proceeding through the primary.
Absentee voting ends the day before the primary
The Secretary of State’s key-dates calendar lists July 21 as the start of regular absentee voting for the primary and Aug. 17 as its end. The primary itself follows on Aug. 18.
The calendar’s dates distinguish the regular absentee-voting period from election day. Voters and candidates therefore face different deadlines in the days immediately preceding and following the primary.
Minor-party candidate filings are due Aug. 17, the same date regular primary absentee voting ends. Independent candidates have a later deadline of Aug. 24, six days after the primary.
Those filing deadlines do not change the scheduled dates for the primary or general election. The state lists Aug. 18 for the primary and Nov. 3 for the general election.
