Target opens at Frankfort’s $150 million Paddocks development

Target has opened in Frankfort as the first business operating at the Paddocks of Frankfort, a $150 million mixed-use development near the U.S. 127 and Interstate 64 interchange.

The store held a ribbon-cutting Tuesday, July 21, according to Franklin County, which announced the opening July 23. The 128,000-square-foot location is the first tenant to open at the 95-acre west Frankfort project.

The opening begins the operating phase of a development planned to bring retail, restaurants and services to the interchange area. Target’s arrival does not mean the remaining listed businesses are open: Franklin County did not provide opening dates for them.

Store features and employment

The new store has a food-forward grocery offering, as well as a CVS, Starbucks Cafe and electric-vehicle charging stations, according to the county. The Lexington Herald-Leader also reported before the opening that the store would use Target’s food-forward format.

Franklin County describes the location as the largest Target in Kentucky and the first new Target to open in the state since 2019.

The store is expected to employ about 200 people. That figure is an anticipated staffing level, not a final employee count.

What is planned at the Paddocks

The Paddocks of Frankfort is described as a $150 million, 95-acre mixed-use development. The county has identified the Target as its first tenant to open, while the Herald-Leader described the project as a retail development near I-64 and U.S. 127.

Additional tenants listed by Franklin County as scheduled to open are BJ’s, Texas Roadhouse, Chipotle, Panda Express and Wawa. The announcement did not set dates for any of those openings.

For shoppers, the Target is now the first open business in the development. For the wider project, the next confirmed milestone is not yet known because no schedule for the other listed tenants was included in the county announcement.
